Coinbase Pro is more of a Trader styled exchange.It is the Fees for purchasing with FIAT is high on Coinbase, however the trick is using Coinbase Pro to avoid large fees. I used those early on to learn how to convert crypto to crypto how to stake some, etc. You can also earn a decent amount of free crypto in their Earn section (I got like $45 worth, my wife has got $35 ish.) They offer different ones at different times. Coinbase is easy to use and simple to learn about a good amount of Crypto and see the volatility of them over time.But costs, quality and safety vary widely.
